By Train
You can travel conveniently to Savonlinna by train (Helsinki–Parikkala) and railcar (Parikkala–Savonlinna). Timetables and ticket prices are available at vr.fi. Savonlinna’s train stations are about 40 km from Oravi. The main railway station is located next to the market square. Alternatively, you can get off at Pääskylahden station, east of the city center. From the train, you can continue to Oravi by taxi, bus, or the SaimaaHoliday Oravi safari bus (shuttle service).
By Bus
Onnibus operates between Helsinki and Savonlinna. For schedules and tickets, visit www.onnibus.com.
On weekdays during the school year, there is also a bus connection between Savonlinna and Oravi. More information at opas.matka.fi.
By Boat
You can also reach Oravi by private boat. Kanava Resort is located along the Savonlinna–Kuopio waterway route. The guest marina is in the village of Oravi, about 300 meters from the cottages.
Taxis and the Oravi Safari Bus
You can reach Kanava Resort from Savonlinna by taxi or the Oravi safari bus. These are also convenient options for visits to the Savonlinna Opera Festival.

In addition to taxis, SaimaaHoliday Oravi’s safari bus (shuttle service) operates between Savonlinna and Oravi, and between Oravi and Kolovesi National Park. By Air
The nearest airport to Oravi is in Savonlinna, about 35 km from Kanava Resort. Norppa.Aero operates flights between Helsinki and Savonlinna five days a week. In addition to domestic flights, Savonlinna Airport also receives charter flights.
Driving Directions to Kanava Resort
Kanava Resort is easy to reach by car. If you’re driving to Oravi, we encourage you to carpool or offer a ride to others heading in the same direction. Free parking is available on-site for guests, along with electric vehicle charging stations.
From the South – via Mikkeli and Savonlinna
Take highway E75 towards Lahti, which becomes road number 5. From Mikkeli, drive toward Varkaus and turn onto road 14 at Juva (Juva/Savonlinna). Drive through Savonlinna toward Enonkoski. Near the Savonlinna Prisma supermarket, turn onto Enonkoskentie (road 471). After 5 km, turn onto Juvolantie (road 468). After about 23 km, turn left onto Tappuvirrantie. After approximately 9 km, you will arrive in Oravi. Kanava Resort is located just after the canal, on the left.
From the North – via Joensuu
Take road 17 (Kuopiontie) for about 11 km, then turn left onto Liperintie (road 476). After approximately 48 km, turn left onto Pölläkäntie (road 471) and continue for about 38 km. This route includes the Hanhivirta ferry. Turn right onto Laasalantie, drive about 12 km, and then turn onto Tappuvirrantie. After approximately 9 km, you’ll arrive in Oravi.
Alternatively, you can drive from Joensuu to Savonlinna via road 6. After Puhos, turn onto road 71. Near Savonlinna Prisma, turn onto Enonkoskentie (road 471). After 5 km, turn onto Juvolantie (road 468). After about 23 km, turn left onto Tappuvirrantie. After 9 km, you’ll reach Oravi. Kanava Resort is just after the canal, on the left.
From the West – via Varkaus
From Varkaus, take road 23 towards Heinävesi/Joensuu for about 10 km. Turn right onto Rauhamäentie (road 468). From that intersection, Oravi is approximately 50 km away. Note that a ferry is part of this route.
From the East – via Imatra
Drive north on road 6. At Särkisalmi, turn onto Savonlinnantie (road 14). After about 50 km, near Savonlinna Prisma, turn onto Enonkoskentie (road 471). After 5 km, turn onto Juvolantie (road 468). After about 23 km, turn left onto Tappuvirrantie. After another 9 km, you’ll reach Oravi. Kanava Resort is located just after the canal, on the left.
